For women it is logical: they experience, often during their menstruation, a hormonal imbalance. The PMS syndrom is causing ‘moodswings’ and changes in how women feel and look. When women start the birth control pill they will notice an increased fat percentage around the belly and legs.

For men, the ratio between the testosteron and growth hormone is often imbalanced. This causes an increase in the cortisol hormone or vice versa. In many cases this causes no muscle production or even a muscle breakdown. A higher fat percentage can be the result, this is called ‘a negative body composition.’

Hormones are responsible for the regulation of our metabolism and our metabolism is causing our body weight. A high metabolism means your body burns energy from food at a fast rate. A person with a low (or slow) metabolism will burn fewer calories at rest and during activity and therefore has to eat less to avoid becoming overweight. Two persons can eat the exact same meals and while one person will gain weight, the other can stay a the samen weight.
